Photographer Cees van Veelen
Cees van Veelen, lives and works
at this moment in Hoorn near Amsterdam.
When he was 14 years old the magic of photography and the darkroom became
his live. At that age, he already entered in photo competitions and won the
second price in a contest of Vrij Nederland in 1956.
Cees van Veelen his education was on the Amsterdam Graphic Academy (AGS),
the Photo professional school in The Haque and L’Ecole de Photography
and Cinematography in Paris. During his study
Cees
van Veelen travelled
to Turkey, and in that time Persia, the Sahara and North-African countries
to photograph there.
In 1962 he opened
a studio in Amsterdam as commercial photographer
working for: advertising, fashion, architectual
and product photography. Clients where a.o. The Telegraaf, DAF, JWT,
Railbouw, Prad, VNU, HVR, Vita Nova, etc.
Besides commercial photography he is also working as an autonomous photographer
which resulted in assigments for art projects. Trough assigments
from Marriot, Ramada and Esso Motor Hotels he visited all West-European countries.
For the printing company Vita Nova he travelled to Bangkok, Hong Kong and
Sri Lanka to shoot travel locations and Hotels.
Cees van
Veelen
as a globetrotter emigrated from Holland to Canada in 1980 to live and
work in Calgary. He build his own studio and in a short time, he enters
the
fast lane. Clients as CP Air, Hayhurst, Westcan, Baker Lovick, Western
Living, Richfield and Simon Dow etc. kept him very busy. In 1985 Cees van
Veelen started with computers to use for his work.
Ventura Xerox en Pagemaker the first programs for dtp and design used by
the magazine ‘Key
tot Calgary’.
Autonomous he started to photograph the Canadian indians
and visited the countries Jamaica,
Bahamas, Dominican
Republic en Mexico. In 1990 Cees Van Veelen returned to Holland because
his former wife wanted to go back. Picking up contacts
with artist and friends in Amsterdam and Hoorn, he got a studio in Hoorn
and started a Photo-Dtp-Studio. Besides his work, he is helping and advising
artist with computer techology within there field of work.
The photographs of Cees van Veelen are published in many magazines and exhibited
in o.a. the Bibliotheek Landsmeer, Capi-Lux Amsterdam, Haags Gemeente Museum
and Galerie De Meerse in Hoofddorp etc. Up till now his autonomous photography
is
still made on his travels all over the world, where he alone travels into
the deep inlands of Africa , South America
and Asia to photograph the people and landscapes.
